Seminar on bread, cake baking

BAKERY owners and baking enthusiasts from all over Northern Mindanao attended a full day seminar on bread and cake baking last August 15 at Hotel Conchita in Cogon, Cagayan de Oro City sponsored by Puratos Philippines Inc., a world-renowned bakery ingredients supplier in the country.

As far as I can remember, Pots & Pans Home Bake & Coffee Shop has been using Puratos quality products for almost 30 years now. I can still vividly remember my late sister, Gloria Dychauco-Martinez, concocting new recipes using their ingredients.

In fact, that was the time when I was formally introduced to the "Puratos" family. And as we grow to become a bakery owner, we are also treated to newer and more innovative products that helped us simplify baking in our business!

Upon entering the venue, my eyes were fixed on the display table where several scrumptious breads and cakes were displayed. The venue was filled with enthusiastic participants who stayed the whole day. The demonstration started at about 9 a.m. with the following recipes: Donuts, using Tegral Colorado (a specialty bread mix), Shell & Soft Bread Varieties, Green Bamboo & Cracker Pepper Bun.

Highlighting the demonstrations was the usage of the following products: Bruggeman Instant Yeast, Soft'r Cotton (bread improver), Micram (shortening), S500 (bread improver), Creamyvit Powder (custard cream powder), O-tentic Durum (specialty bread mix), Butter Oil Substitute & many others.

Lunch was served and in the afternoon session, Muffins & Cake Varieties were demonstrated by Kristine Bella and Christine Melanie Paredes using the following premixes: Tegral Ever Cake (muffin mix), Tegral Chiffon Cake Mix, Tegral Chocolate Cake Mix, Harmony Neutra(neutral glaze), Fudge Icing and many others.

Using their cake mixes, the demonstrators were able to come up with innovative designs using fresh fruits and ready mix creams.

The demonstration went smoothly with the help of Alexander Uy, sale supervisor for Vizayas and Mindanao who came all the way from Cebu City.

Aside from the pre-baked goodies that were given away at the end of the day, the participants were also able to savor the freshly baked products that were done after the demonstration.

Free flowing "Sikwate," a premix product was also served through out the day.

Samples of their products were also given to lucky participants who were able to answer questions regarding Puratos' Products.

Needless to say, everybody went home with a big smile and of course with a lot of bread and cake samples to share with their friends and family! It was indeed very educational to all of us and enlightening to see our fellow bakers learning new ideas and upgrading their skills. We hope to see more activities and demonstrations in the future to help our bakery industry in Northern Mindanao!
